Softedge™ shutters have a sculptured panel edge and concealed hinges. This patented Shenandoah design changes how the shutter meets your window molding, giving you less visible hardware when the panels are closed.
The best way to judge the look is to hold a sample against your own trim. The molding profile, paint or stain, and space around the window all affect the finished result.
What Makes Softedge Different?
- Sculptured edge: The rounded panel edge forms the transition to the molding.
- Concealed hinges: The hinges are hidden with the panels closed.
- Custom mounting: We measure the opening and check how the window and shutter panels will operate.
See the Softedge product page for photographs and design options.
Work With the Trim You Already Have
If the room has detailed molding, compare the shape of the sample with that woodwork. With simpler trim, look at how much of the edge and hardware you want to see. There is no need to give the room a particular style label before choosing.
A painted finish can coordinate with your existing window casing. A stained finish shows the wood grain and can be compared with flooring or furniture. We offer custom paint and stain matching and can explain what sample to bring.
Check Window Access
For tilt-in windows or casements, the consultant checks the controls, opening depth, and movement of the window. Nearby curtains and furniture also need room. Softedge is a design choice to assess at the actual opening, rather than a promise that one mounting arrangement fits every window.
Compare Samples at Home
Shenandoah has made hardwood shutters in Richmond and served communities across Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC since 1990. During a free consultation, we bring samples, measure your windows, and help you compare the layouts and finishes.
