A shutter consultation is a chance to see samples at your own windows and work through the details before ordering. These eight questions help you compare the design, installation, and quote.
1. Where Are the Shutters Made?
Shenandoah builds its hardwood shutters in Richmond, Virginia. Our own employees measure and install them. We have served Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC communities since 1990.
2. Which Wood and Finish Will You Use?
We typically use yellow poplar and basswood. Compare paint and stain samples beside your trim. If you want a custom color match, ask what sample to provide and have the selected finish recorded with the order.
3. How Will the Panels and Louvers Open?
Ask to see the proposed panel arrangement, louver size, and tilt control. We offer 2.5-inch, 3.5-inch, and 4.5-inch louvers. The right choice depends on the look you prefer and the clearance available at the glass and handles.
4. Can I Keep My Curtains and Reach the Window Locks?
Show the consultant anything you want to keep around the window. Curtain brackets, furniture, locks, and casement handles can affect the mounting position and space for a panel to swing open.
5. What About Doors or Unusual Window Shapes?
French doors, sliding doors, and sidelights need their own layouts. Arches and ovals also require specific measurements. Ask how each section will operate and how you will reach the glass.
6. What Is Included in My Quote?
Shenandoah provides a free estimate after measuring and discussing the design. Confirm the selected windows, finish, hardware, installation, and any options before approving the order. You can plan one room, selected windows, or the whole home.
7. How Should I Care for the Shutters?
Dust with a soft cloth. For a mark that needs more attention, use a barely damp cloth and dry the area. Avoid cleaning agents or spraying the shutter. Our cleaning guide explains the routine.
8. What Happens After I Order?
Your shutters are built in Richmond and installed by our team. Ask when the schedule will be confirmed and whom to contact with questions. We offer a 100-year transferable warranty; review the written terms with your quote.
